I’ve been shopping for a winch for my Jeep Gladiator, and there are a lot of choices out there. I’m fairly new to the world of Jeeps and am a bit overwhelmed, to be honest. Can you tell me what the best winch is for a Jeep Gladiator?

Jeep Gladiator
depends on the terrain you’re driving in and how much weight you want to be able to pull with it. If that seems like a bit of a cop-out, figuring out your minimum line-pull rating is a good place to start. Take the
gross vehicle weight rating
of your Jeep Gladiator (that’s the curb weight combined with the weight of the passengers and cargo) and multiply it by 1.5. The number you get is the minimum industry standard for the right winch size. Most Jeeps owners go with a winch with a 9,000 to 12,000-pound line-pull rating. If you want a lot of pulling power, then you’ll want to go on the high side of this range. Other factors to consider include the kind of terrain you’ll be driving in—is it muddy, sandy, or really steep? Do you want a steel cable or a synthetic one? Will you be towing anything as well? Online Jeep Gladiator forums can be a good place to get some real-world information, and your Jeep dealership should also be able to give you some solid advice as well!
