I’ve always wanted to visit the Southwest, so I thought I’d start with the biggest city. I currently live in Omaha, and although the drive is long, I don’t really want to fly. What’s the best route from Omaha to Phoenix?

  • Head west on I-80 out of
    Omaha
  • Take exit 272 for NE-44 South.
  • Turn right on US-34.
  • Near Arapahoe, Nebraska, make a left onto US-283.
  • Make a right onto US-36 followed by a left onto KS-383.
  • Follow this until Oakley, Kansas, and then make a right turn onto US-40.
  • Make a left onto US-287 near Kit Carson, Colorado.
  • Make a right onto CO-96.
  • Make a left onto CO-109.
  • In La Junta, Colorado, make a left onto US-50 and then another left on US-350.
  • Merge onto I-25 South near Trinidad, Colorado.
  • Take exit 226A for I-40 West near Albuquerque and follow it all the way into Phoenix.
