What’s a good way to prevent rollovers when driving an SUV?

My wife wants to buy an SUV, but I’m leery. I remember when they became popular and it seemed like an SUV rolling over was on the news every day. I don’t hear about it as much now, which I guess is a good thing, but I know it can still happen. How can you avoid SUV rollover accidents?

SUVs got a bad rap in their early years thanks to the high number of publicized rollovers. Thankfully, they were redesigned to be more safe and stable and are now one of the most
popular types of cars on the road
. But you should still exercise caution when driving an SUV, as it is still possible to roll one over by being careless.
A good way to prevent rollovers when driving an SUV is to avoid aggressive driving. SUVs are more likely to roll over because they have a higher center of gravity than say, a coupe or sedan. They’re also taller and narrower than trucks or
vans
. They are perfectly safe to drive , though, as long as you’re practicing safe driving habits.
Because SUVs don’t have the handling of low-slung sports cars, they should not be driven like them. So, go slow until you become acclimated. This means avoiding swerving or taking sharp turns at speed.
The good news is SUVs, for the most part, tend to be cheaper to insure than sedans. This is due to the fact that so many safety features come standard in typical SUVs, so they’re deemed safer by insurers.
