What type of oil does the 2004 Subaru Forester need?

Does the 2004 Subaru Forester use the same type of oil as the 2016 Subaru Forester? My daughter and I both own Foresters so I’m hoping I can use the oil I already have to top off her car.

That would be convenient! The 2004
Subaru Forester
requires SAE 5W-30 grade synthetic oil. The car requires about 4.2 quarts of oil to function properly, but you’ll probably just need a little bit to top off your car.
Fortunately for you and your daughter, the 2016 Subaru Forester also requires this type of oil! As such, you can purchase or use one container of oil for both cars. Just make sure that you’re buying 5W-30 oil, since using the wrong oil grade can damage your vehicle.
