What speed is considered reckless driving in New Mexico?

New Mexico is one of my favorite places on the planet. I’m going to visit this summer. It’ll be the first time I’m driving my own car around the Land of Enchantment. I don’t want to get a ticket for reckless driving though. What speed is considered reckless driving in New Mexico?

From White Sands to Taos,
New Mexico
has plenty to explore! There is no set speed that is considered reckless driving in New Mexico—it is up to the discretion of the officer who pulled you over.
That said, many police officers and state troopers will issue a reckless driving ticket for driving 26 mph or more over the speed limit.
In New Mexico, reckless driving is a misdemeanor that’s punishable by:
  • 5 to 90 days in jail and a fine of $25 to $100 for the first offense
  • 10 to 180 days in jail and a fine between $50 and $1,000 for a subsequent offense
Since you’re taking a road trip, make sure that you have the proper car insurance.
