What size solar panels so I need to charge an electric car?

I just bought my first electric car, and to maximize the savings I’ll get on fuel, I’m planning to install solar panels on my house to help supplement my electricity. What size solar panels would generate enough electricity to charge an electric car?

First of all, congrats on getting your first
electric car
. Driving an EV and installing solar panels isn’t just good for your pocketbook, it’s great for the environment as well!
The number of solar panels you’ll need will depend on the type of electric car you have and how much you drive, but we can get you started with an estimate. Typically, it will take between five and 10 solar panels to charge an EV 40 or more miles per day of driving.
The typical solar panel is around 65 inches by 39 inches, so the size you’ll need to map out to charge your car could be anywhere from 17 feet by 16.25 feet, to 54 feet by 32.5 feet.
