What size alternator do I need for my car’s audio?
I’m planning on upgrading my car’s audio system next month, but I’d like to calculate the cost as well as how long it’ll take me to do the job on my own. If I’m investing in a new sound system that draws more power than my current system, what size alternator will I need for my car’s audio system?

High output alternators can be expensive, but they are usually necessary for louder audio systems. The size of your high output alternator will depend on your car’s electrical needs in addition to your new audio system’s power needs.
Typically, a 250-300 ampere high output alternator should provide enough power for your car’s power needs in addition to the new audio system. The best way to choose the right alternator for your car is to consult with a mechanic so you can make an educated and safe decision.
