Driving through a construction zone requires more care than driving anywhere else due to workers being present, obstacles like cones, and narrow or shifting lane patterns.
When driving through a construction zone, you should:
Slow down to the posted speed limit.
Watch out for machinery and workers entering the roadway.
Leave adequate room between your car and the car in front of you. Instead of two seconds, you may want to increase the space up to five seconds.
Avoid brake-checking tailgaters. This may cause them to swerve, which could result in an accident or the injury of a worker.
Never pass other drivers on the shoulder or median.
