What should I do if the towing company damaged the drivetrain on my car?
What should I do if my car was damaged by the towing company? I left the car unlocked so the towing company could put the car into neutral when they towed it. When I arrived at the shop, the car had significant damage to the drivetrain. The original issue was with the alternator. The repair shop told me that the towing company probably did it.

Tell them that your drivetrain was damaged in transit between your breakdown site and the
repair shop
. Most reputable companies will at least investigate your claim and pay you if they find that they’re at fault. If they want to play hardball, the issue becomes far more difficult.
Threaten to report them to the Better Business Bureau.
If that doesn’t work, hire an attorney. An attorney’s scare tactics will usually get the job done, or at least force the towing company into going to small claims court.
Drivetrains aren’t cheap. When thousands of dollars are at stake, don’t let a towing company get away with it.”
