I watched a movie the other night and there was a scene where a driver’s power steering goes out. I can’t help but wonder what I would do if that happened to me. What should I do if my power steering goes out while I'm driving?

If your power steering fails, it will become difficult to move your steering wheel, which can be a jarring experience, to say the least.
If it happens to you, remain calm and follow these steps:
- Alert other drivers: If there are other drivers around, let them know you’re having trouble by turning on your hazard lights, and honk if necessary.
- Safely pull off the road: Next, brake gently as you steer the car to the side of the road. This will be pretty difficult and you’ll have to put some muscle into steering.
- Call roadside assistance: Once you get to the shoulder, stop the car and call forroadside assistance.
Luckily, you’ll usually know ahead of time if there’s an issue. If you hear any whining noises when you turn your wheel, check your power steering fluid levels and look for a warning light as these may indicate power steering issues.
