The electric vehicle industry is booming right now, and it’s certainly taking off in Japan as well. Japan is the third-biggest automaker globally after China and the U.S., but electric cars only make up about 1% of all of Japan’s car sales. While we don’t have the exact numbers for Tokyo, it’s safe to assume that the dispersion of EVs is similar to the rest of the country.
While some Japanese residents choose to get a fully-electric car, hybrid models are much more popular and affordable, which is why BEVs still only make up about 1% of the market share.
