What makes you automatically fail a driving test?

I don’t want to make too many mistakes on my driving test, but I’m sure that I’ll do something wrong. Is there any mistake that would make me automatically fail? I want to make sure that I’m practicing the right things!

It’s great that you’re preparing for your test in advance! There are a few things that can make you automatically fail a driving test:
  1. Rolling through a stop sign
  2. Forgetting to fasten your seatbelt
  3. Speeding
or driving more than 10 MPH below the posted speed limit
  4. Forcing the examiner to intervene by grabbing the wheel
  5. Tailgating the person in front of you
  6. Getting into an accident of any kind
There are other things—like forgetting to check your mirrors or braking too sharply—that can cost you points on your driving test, but these typically won’t result in automatic failure. However, multiple small problems with your driving could still result in an overall failure, so practice as much as you can before your exam!
