Typically, a 2021 Toyota Corolla takes SAE 0W-16, but 0W-20 may be used temporarily.
When choosing an oil for extreme temperatures, there are two factors to consider:
- Conventional vs. synthetic
- Oil viscosity
Pure synthetic or even synthetic blend oils contain fewer impurities than conventional oil, and they provide more protection for your engine in extreme temperatures.
Oil viscosity (or SAE rating) tells you how the oil functions at different temperatures. It’s represented as two numbers separated by the letter “w” which stands for “winter.” The number to the left of the “w” indicates the lowest temperature the oil can handle. For cold winters, you’ll want to choose a 0w or 5w oil.
