Yikes, that’s no fun. Your vision can change at any time in your life, for better or for worse. If you’re starting to notice difficulty with your vision when driving, you should definitely make an appointment with your eye doctor as soon as possible.
If you already know you need glasses for driving, here are some characteristics you may want to look for when shopping for driving glasses:
- Anti-reflective coating. Without specialized coating to reduce glare, you could be distracted or blinded by headlights or even wet road reflections.
- Polarizing filter. This adds an extra layer of protection from glare.
- Lens tint. If you’re having trouble with colors (like traffic lights or brake lights), a brown or gray tint can help.
- Anti-dust lenses. Certain lens coatings can reduce dust, dirt, particles, and scratches to minimize eye strain.
- Progressive lenses. Switching back and forth between your dashboard and oncoming traffic can be hard on your eyes. These lenses help your vision quickly adapt between long and short distances.
- Slim, curved frames. Wearing larger lenses with smaller frames will give you the clearest field of vision while you’re driving.
