What is Wisconsin’s blood alcohol limit?

I’m being relocated to Wisconsin for work and want to familiarize myself with the driving laws before going. What’s the blood alcohol limit before you’re charged with a DUI?

Driving under the influence
in any state is a serious offense with severe consequences. In
Wisconsin
, the blood alcohol limit for drivers over 21 is 0.08%. Commercial drivers must not exceed 0.04% and minors cannot exceed 0.00%.
If you’re stopped by authorities and blow over the legal limit, you may be convicted of an OWI (operating a vehicle while intoxicated) and you will be required to complete a drug and alcohol evaluation, along with a treatment program. You’ll also be liable for a fine and possible jail time or probation, but penalties are determined by your prior OWI offenses on your record.
A first-time DUI offense in Wisconsin will get you:
  • Driver’s license revoked for 6 to 9 months
  • $150 to $300 fine plus an additional OWI surcharge of $435
  • Ignition interlock device (IID) installed in the vehicle for BAC o.15% or more
  • High-risk driver status (SR-22 required for insurance)
  • Occupational driver’s license requires IID installation and service charges
  • Penalties for first non-compliance with IID: up to $600 fine and six months jail time
  • Penalties for repeat non-compliance with IID: up to $1000 fine and one year in jail
  • Mandatory Alcohol and Other Drug Assessment (AODA) plus associated fees
  • Driver’s license reinstatement fee of $200
If you think those fees are bad, you’ll also see a severe increase in your insurance rates. But if you’ve been convicted of a DUI and want to safely hit the roads again,
