I’ve always been a fan of Subarus because of the standard all-wheel drive. But with most all-wheel drive vehicles, you often see a sizable decrease in fuel economy. I have my eye on a Forester, but I want to make sure it’s efficient. What is the gas mileage of the Subaru Forester?

is a leader in fuel economy among a highly competitive all-wheel-drive segment. The Forester base model, Forester Premium
, and Forester Sport
all offer 33 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in the city.Even with Subaru’s proprietary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, the Forester’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine doesn’t suck down the gas like competitors. But it still provides an impressive 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque to get you where you need to go.
If you’re an off-road enthusiast, you may also want to consider the Subaru Forester Wilderness. With a higher clearance, larger tires, roof rails, and an upgraded suspension, it can take you just about anywhere. However, this comes at a premium, as the Wilderness’s gas mileage falls to 28 mpg on the highway and 25 mpg in the city. But with that added price comes versatility and ruggedness that few other all-wheel-drive vehicles can offer.
