What is the penalty for not updating a driver's license after moving to a new state?

What is the penalty for driving in a new state without updating your license? I am moving from a northeast state to the south soon and I want to know what will happen if I didn’t update my license.

You must get a new license within 30-60 days. The timeline can vary from state to state, so please check with your local DMV.
If you don’t notify your new state of your address change, you risk having your
license suspended
. The same can happen if you fail to notify your previous state.
Depending on your state’s laws, not changing your license to your new state may have severe penalties. Most states can:
  • consider it a misdemeanor crime
  • put you in jail for up to a year
  • charge you fees
  • suspend your license
Your insurer will require that the correct address is on file with your state of license. If your license is suspended, your insurance may no longer cover you, resulting in a policy lapse. If you are not insured, you risk paying for costly car accident damages and fines out of pocket.
Long story short, change your license on time and avoid a costly headache.
Once you update your license, don’t forget to update your insurance to meet the
state’s minimum insurance requirements
.
