What is the North Carolina speed limit?

I’m planning on visiting North Carolina for about 10 days and I’m going to drive the entire way. My only issue is that I have a few speeding tickets and I’d like to avoid getting any more. What’s the speed limit in North Carolina?

The Tarheel State is a great destination, but make sure you obey the
North Carolina
speed limit of 70 mph maximum. This speed only applies to certain stretches of rural interstate, so pay attention to posted speed limits in other areas.
Other speed limits in North Carolina are:
  • 55 mph–70 mph on U.S. Highways and North Carolina State Highways
  • 55 mph on county and rural roads
  • 35 mph in residential areas and business districts unless otherwise posted
  • 20 mph in school zones
