The 12-volt battery in a Nissan Leaf can degrade at different rates, even within the same model year. This is because Nissan Leaf’s battery degradation rate depends on a few factors, including:
- Climate
- Vehicle usage
- Age
In general, Nissan estimates that the Leaf’s battery will lose 20% of its original charge capacity over the first five years of use and ownership. In reality, however, Nissan Leaf batteries have seen a slower rate of degradation, losing only about 10% capacity in the first five years.
All in all, the actual degradation rate of your Nissan Leaf’s battery will depend on the conditions you drive in and your regular driving habits, but you can generally expect a 10% - 20% drop in battery capacity after five years of use.
