What is the most common car in Maryland?
I just took a job at John Hopkins in Baltimore teaching Literature, specifically the work of Edgar Allan Poe—the city’s most famous poet. I’m becoming more of a common “Marylander” every day, and I often wonder what Poe would drive if he were alive today. Of course, he’s the furthest thing from “common”—but what’s the most common car in Maryland?

Well, the literati here at Jerry firmly believe that if Edgar Allan Poe were alive today, he’d drive a hearse. But, of course, a hearse is not Maryland’s most common car, not by a long shot. Maryland’s most common car is actually the Honda Accord.
The Accord boasts a slew of desirable traits that make it popular with residents of The Old Line State:

- A midsize sedan that’s been beloved by Americans since its introduction to the U.S. auto market back in 1976.
- The Accord has boasted a hybrid line since 2005, and the latest hybrid Accord sports an astounding fuel economy of 50 miles per gallon for both city and highway—you won’t have to fill up for weeks.
- Car and Driver ranks the Honda a sterling 10/10, with top safety ratings, spirited acceleration, smooth handling, and an easy-to-use infotainment system.
- One downside—the Accord is consistently ranked one of the most stolen cars in America.
It appears that—at least according to Marylanders—you just can’t beat a Honda Accord. It sure beats a hearse.
