I want to buy a hybrid car like the Toyota Prius to save on gas, but I’ve heard that the cost of replacing the battery is outrageous. How long do hybrid car batteries typically last?

can definitely reduce how much you pay at the pump each year. And you’ll be pleased to know that the lifespan of a hybrid car battery is 80,000 to 100,000 miles. Several factors go into how long your battery will last, including:
- How often you drive your vehicle and the length of time you drive continuously (i.e., running errands infrequently close to home vs. commuting to work daily far from home)
- Age of the battery, regardless of how much you drive
- How often and how long you charge the battery
For what it’s worth, most automakers include a warranty for 80,000 to 100,000 miles for hybrid car batteries. Hopefully, that puts your mind at ease!
