What is the GMC disposition fee?

My husband and I are looking at leasing a truck, and I’m just now learning about this thing called a disposition fee. It sounds like a scam but most dealers do it. What is the GMC disposition fee?

The GMC disposition fee is charged to people who return a leased vehicle and don’t buy it. It’s a standard part of leasing agreements and is usually between $300 and $400.
If you decide not to purchase your GMC at the end of your lease, the dealer will have to prepare it to be sold. This process includes cleaning it thoroughly, inspecting it properly, and storing it until it can be sold. All of this costs money, which GMC has cleverly built into your leasing contract.
You can avoid the disposition fee by purchasing the vehicle at the end of your lease. The only other way to avoid the fee is to lease or purchase another vehicle from the dealer. But otherwise, you’ll have to pay the fee.
Always ask the dealer about the fine print. If you’re uncertain about the terms of your agreement, speak up! It’s your money and you should understand the contract thoroughly.
Hope this helps!
