What is the best driving route from Houston to St. Louis?

I’m going to be visiting some friends in St. Louis in a few weeks and to keep things more flexible I decided I’m just going to drive up rather than fly. What is the best driving route from Houston to St. Louis?

The trip between Houston and St. Louis is roughly 13 hours depending on traffic. But to be safe, you’ll want to be sure to budget enough time in your trip for gas, food, restrooms, and resting. A good halfway point to spend a night would be Little Rock or Caddo Valley, Arkansas if you don’t want to stay in a city.
Before your trip, it’s a good idea to check for road closures. It’s also important to prepare your vehicle by scheduling any overdue
routine maintenance
and purchasing quality car insurance coverage.
