What is the average time to fully charge an electric car?

I recently was out at a lunch with a friend who got a Tesla a few months ago. She was saying it takes about 6 to 8 hours to charge it at her house. That seems kind of long. What is the average time to fully charge an electric car?

Great question! Yes, your friend is right electric cars take about 6 to 8 hours to charge on a level 2 (at-home) charger.
There are different
levels of charging stations
the higher the number, the faster it charges.
The default EV charger for your home is a Level 1 charger which can be plugged into a regular outlet. These may take up to 12 hours to charge, and for most people, they’re not ideal. Many EV owners install an upgraded Level 2 charging station at their homes to allow for faster charging.
Typically, the vehicle is plugged in overnight so while you recharge, so does your vehicle. Tesla Supercharger stations are Level 3 stations that actually allow an EV to be charged from empty to 80% in only 30 minutes. While Level 3 stations are convenient overuse may take a toll on the car battery.
We all need recharging sometimes, and perhaps your
car insurance
policy does too.
