maxes out at 3,500 pounds with four-wheel drive or 5,000 pounds with all-wheel drive. This rugged midsize SUV is a great choice for family getaways, but if you plan on
using a trailer
for work or recreation, you’ll want to note the following weight limits as well: - Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)(i.e. the safe limit for the combined weight of your vehicle and cargo): found on the inside edge of the driver’s door
- Payload capacity (i.e. the weight limit on cargo): found by subtracting the curb weight (4,057 to 4,262 for a Passport) from the GVWR
The combined weight of all your cargo and the tongue weight of your trailer (10% to 15% of the total trailer weight) cannot exceed the payload capacity. Doing some payload calculations to find a trailer weight that you can safely tow will help you maintain your Passport in the long run.
