Essentially, the Honda Sensing braking system is a driver-assist safety feature that’s programmed to automatically brake when a pedestrian or other obstacle crosses in front of your CR-V’s path. Unfortunately, there have been many reports of a software defect in 2017 and 2018 models that causes random, sudden braking when there is no obstacle on the road.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) actually received upwards of 278 complaints detailing automatic braking systems deploying randomly at high speeds—and causing some significant damages because of it. Though the NHTSA is still investigating the issue, Honda has yet to initiate any official recalls.
