What is proof of renters insurance?

I’m moving to a new apartment at the end of this month, but my landlord won’t let me sign the lease until I send him proof of insurance. What is considered acceptable proof of renters insurance?

Moving can undoubtedly be stressful, but I hope you’re looking forward to it!
In most instances, proof of renters insurance is a copy of your policy’s declaration page showing your name, address, and amount of coverage you carry. That said, other types of proof exist, including:
  • A digital copy of your policy’s declaration page
  • Notification directly from your insurance company
  • Seeing you access your online profile
  • Letter of coverage from your insurance
  • Adding your landlord as an interested party
Every landlord is different, so you’ll want to confirm what proof they’d like. Once you have a policy in place, it’ll be fairly easy to get the proof you require from your insurance company.
