made today are generally considered good for about 200,000 miles, but the longevity of an electric car’s battery system depends on more than just miles. In addition to mileage, you should look for overall
battery degradation
when shopping for a used electric car
. For example, an electric car with 80,000 miles on it with a well-managed, healthy battery could be a better choice than a comparable EV with only 60,000 miles but a poorly managed battery.
If you’re still unsure, there’s one more thing to keep in mind. Electric car batteries must be under warranty for at least the first eight years or 100,000 miles due to a federal mandate. If your car appears to be in poor battery health due to a manufacturing failure, it could be eligible for replacement.
