What is a side-by-side?

What kind of vehicle is a side-by-side? Based on the ad that I saw on Facebook it sounds like it's basically an ATV but there were no pictures so I’m not sure if that’s accurate.

You’re not far off by comparing a side-by-side to an
ATV
since they have similar powertrains and off-roading ability. While they aren’t technically all-terrain vehicles, they are certainly capable of driving on rough terrain.
One of the main differences between ATVs and side-by-sides is that side-by-sides have a golf car style cabin that allows multiple people to sit next to each other—hence the name side-by-side.
While you’re learning about side-by-sides, why not learn about your insurance options, too? Saving on your car insurance is easy when you use the
