What is a hazard in driving?

There just seems to be so much to know when learning how to drive. I’m reading about all these different hazards, but what does that even mean? What is a hazard in driving?

You’re right about that—there is a lot to learn when you’re learning to drive. Put simply, a hazard is anything that may come between you and your ability to drive safely. Here are a few examples of some common hazards in driving:
  • Congested traffic
  • Reckless drivers
  • Malfunctioning traffic lights
  • Careless pedestrians or cyclists
  • Poor weather conditions
  • Potholes or debris in the road
While these are all hazards to you while you’re driving, it’s easier than you may think to become a hazard yourself. To avoid being a driving hazard, always stay focused, remain calm, and practice situational awareness so you know what’s going on with the cars and people around you.
Even the most careful of drivers can’t avoid every hazard, and that’s why you need to be sure you’re covered with solid
