What happens to used batteries from electric cars?

As part of a climate change project for school, I was doing some research on electric vehicles, but I was a bit confused when it came to the batteries. What happens to used batteries from electric cars?

Great question; this is one we’ve gotten a lot. Currently, experts are still coming up with a way to safely and effectively recycle EV batteries.
Due to the intricate nature of the lithium-ion batteries and their components, deconstruction can be dangerous and even fatal if not done properly and carefully. With the wave of electric cars over the past decade, there will be a wave of old EVs and old batteries in need of replacement.
So where will the batteries go? While combustion engine vehicles have fairly universal parts that can be bought and traded, many EVs are specific to their manufacturers, which may cause some issues for the auto parts market.
