What happens if you are charged with reckless driving?

I received a speeding ticket the other day. The officer who pulled me over told me that he should have and could have given me a reckless driving ticket, but I was polite to him, so he only gave me a speeding ticket. I’m glad I didn’t get a reckless driving ticket, but what happens if you’re charged with it?

Sorry to hear about your
speeding ticket
, but you should be glad you weren’t charged with reckless driving. If you had been charged with reckless driving, you would have been facing a number of issues. These vary by state but could include:
  • Fines
  • Jail time
  • Points on your license
  • Potential to impact your employment
  • A loss of your license
  • Increase in your car insurance rates
Because you weren’t charged with reckless driving, your ticket will fall off your license in between one and five years. However, a reckless driving charge is a misdemeanor that might remain on your record forever unless you can plead to a lesser charge or your attorney can get the charge expunged.
But because you were charged with speeding, your rates are going to increase regardless. Luckily,
