What happens if injuries in an at-fault accident exceed my limit of 15/30?
I was at fault in an accident and have $15,000/$30,000 for bodily injury liability. My brother said that if the other party's injuries are more than $15,000, I could have to pay out of pocket or they may sue me. What should I do?

If the other driver has
underinsured motorist coverage
, their insurance may kick in to cover any remaining amount after your coverage has been exhausted. If they don’t have underinsured motorist coverage, your insurance will try to settle with the other driver. This means if the other driver’s medical bills are $18,000 and your coverage limit is $15,000, they may see if they can settle for the $15,000. However, the other driver is not required to settle.
Should they not want to, they can choose to pursue legal action against you to get coverage for the rest of their medical bills. Your insurance does represent you in liability cases, so make sure you inform them of any legal action.“
