“If you’re a customer in good standing and haven’t missed car insurance
payments in the past, USAA
will probably give you some leeway. Start by giving them a call. You might get a five to 10 day extension to make the payment.
Whatever you do, don’t let the policy lapse through nonpayment. If this happens, USAA will cancel your policy.
Once the policy is canceled, you’ll not only be without insurance, but you’ll also be in the high-risk category. As a result, car insurance companies will quote you much higher rates than you’ve been paying before. So it’s in your best interest to make the payment within the extension window they give you.
If you can’t afford to pay for your USAA coverage at all, start shopping around for lower rates with other companies. Get as many quotes as you can.”
