Though the odds of getting hit by lightning are pretty slim, it’s not 100% out of the question. If an electric car gets struck by lightning you can expect some damage.
Just like a regular gas-fueled car, a
lightning strike
is enough to cause minor to extensive amounts of damage. As electricity courses through the exterior of the vehicle, your tires could explode.
Plan for the worst. If you’re inside the vehicle, you should remain there until things are safe, but keep an eye out for fires. You will likely need to call a tow truck and arrange to have your car assessed.
Call your insurance company too. Lightning is powerful and may result in your vehicle being totaled.
