What happens if a car is stolen while you're borrowing it?
"What should I do if insurance says they won't cover damage on a stolen vehicle? My friend said I could borrow her insured car while she was out of the country. The car was stolen while I was at work two days ago. It's been recovered, but now she's saying that the damage isn't covered by her insurance."

“If your friend has
comprehensive insurance
, her insurance should cover the damage that occurred from the theft. As you had permissive use, most insurance policies would cover the damage minus her deductible.However, every company is different. Since your friend knew you would be borrowing her vehicle while she was gone, she may have needed to add you as an additional driver. This would have ensured that you were covered in an accident or event like this.
She will need to reach out to her insurance and see what can be done. She should explain that she gave you permission to use the vehicle.
If they still refuse to cover the damage, the cost of repairs would be out of pocket. If the police can find who stole the vehicle, you may be able to file a lawsuit against them for the damages.”
