What does JDM cars mean?

I told a new friend I loved cars and they assumed I was a fanatic, so now I have to do some research to keep up in conversations. For example, they keep using the term “JDM cars”—what does that even mean?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market, which refers to vehicles made by Japanese car companies for their domestic market. Not all cars produced in Japan are JDM cars, though. JDM cars are not manufactured for the international market—only to be sold in Japan’s local market.
Car lovers claim that JDM cars are better than other vehicles due to their efficiency, practicality, and performance. They also come with the most up-to-date technology.
JDM cars are only legal in the US, however, if they’re at least 25 years old. Even then, you’ll need an export certificate, a translated export certificate, bill of landing, invoice, and an ISF filing forum before getting clearance from US customs.
You may not be able to get the most recent JDM cars in the US, but
