What does it mean to be a non-rated driver with Progressive?

My in-laws live with us and are non-rated drivers on my policy. Does that mean they are covered?

“Rating and drivers on a
car insurance
policy can be complex. It’s completely understandable to want more clarification on it!
When listing drivers, a rated or non-rated determines how each driver on a policy will affect rates. Non-rated drivers, no matter their driving history, won’t affect your insurance rates, while rated drivers will.
Although your in-laws are non-rated, they will have coverage under your
Progressive
policy. Their non-rated status simply means you don’t have to worry about their influence on your premiums.
That said, it’s always best to check with Progressive. Every insurance company has unique terms and conditions. It’s better to know now than when you need to submit a claim!
Should Progressive not cover your in-laws or your rate increases when listing them as rated, consider shopping around. If you’d like help, go to
