What does a driving permit allow?

I just got my driving permit in Illinois, and I know there are certain restrictions on what I can do, but I’m not sure what they are. What am I allowed to do with my driving permit?

Congratulations on getting your
driving permit
! Each state has its own laws about what you can and can’t do with a driving permit. In Illinois, until you turn 18, there are certain things that your driving permit won’t allow, including:
  1. Using your cellphone, even hands-free.
  2. Driving between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday-Thursday or 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Friday-Saturday.
  3. Getting any driving convictions will prevent you from moving forward and getting your license.
  4. You much have a supervising driver who is at least 21 years old.
However, even once you get your adult license, there are certain restrictions on what you can and can’t do in your car. Some of these restrictions include:
  1. You may only have as many passengers as there are seatbelts in the vehicle.
  2. You may not text and drive.
