What documents do I need for car loan closing?

I'm an organized person, so I like to have everything in order. I'm closing on a car loan next week. What documents do I need?

A new car is always an exciting time, even if you have to get a
car loan
to do it! Since you love organizing, your lender will love that the closing process moves like clockwork.
When you show up to your closing—assuming that you weren’t preapproved, you’re going to need:
  • Proof of residency, such as a utility bill
  • Proof of income, such as pay stubs or W-2s
  • Vehicle information, including the vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • Down payment method, if necessary
  • Any information on a trade-in, if necessary
  • Banking history, if required by the lender
  • Proof of insurance
, usually full coverage, or comprehensive and collision coverage.
Having proof of insurance is especially important as you typically can’t get the check from the lender without it. To make it easy, start shopping with the
