Congrats on finding your dream car—and don’t panic. You didn’t describe the light, so it’s hard to say what is triggering the light in your
Subaru WRX’s
dashboard. Hopefully, this table below, which lists some of the most common warning lights on a Subaru dashboard, will be helpful:
Description of light & color
What light may mean
When to go to mechanic
Engine icon; amber
Problems vary from less serious (a loose gas cap) to a failing emissions system.
If tightening your gas cap doesn’t turn off the light, take your WRX to a dealer/mechanic as soon as possible.
Gas pump icon; amber
Low fuel
Put gas in your car—or you may run out.
Horseshoe-shaped icon with an !; amber
Low tire pressure
Check the tire pressure as soon as you can slow down. Do not continue to drive on one or more tires with low pressure.
Person with a strap over their body; red
Seat belt not on
Put on your seatbelt, and the light should go off.
Oil can icon; red
Oil pressure is low
Check your oil level as soon as you can safely do so. If the light does not go off after adding oil, immediately take your Subaru to a mechanic to troubleshoot the cause to prevent engine damage.
BRAKE letter; red
Problems with your braking system.
Safely stop the car. Tow to a mechanic if necessary. Do not drive with potential brake problems.
Pay attention to dashboard lights. After all, these lights come on for a reason! Having your mechanic troubleshoot a problem can wind up saving you money on expensive repair bills.
Addressing car maintenance issues before they do further damage saves money—and so does taking the time to do comparison shopping for inexpensive car insurance.
