A light just went on in my Pontiac Vibe. The letters ABS lit up in amber, so I assume I have a problem with my ABS brakes, right? What do Pontiac Vibe dash warning lights mean?
Description of light & color | What light may mean | When to go to mechanic |
---|---|---|
Oil can icon; red | Low oil pressure or low oil level | Check your oil level and put in oil if needed. If the light does not go off, take your car to a mechanic ASAP to prevent engine damage. |
BRAKE letters; red | Problem with brakes. | Check to be sure your emergency brake is off. If it is, pull over safely and have the car towed to a mechanic ASAP. You do not want to continue driving with a brake issue. |
Icon of battery with - and +; red | Problem with the charging system, including a dying or dead battery or alternator. | Bring the vehicle to stop safely—hopefully at a garage—as your car will likely stop operating. |
Icon of an engine; amber | Problems can vary from a simple fix (a loose gas cap) to a failing emissions system. | If tightening your gas cap does not work, take it to a dealer/mechanic as soon as possible. |
ABS letters; amber | Problem with your ABS braking system | Your conventional brakes should continue to work, but you should take your vehicle for servicing of your ABS as soon as you can. |
Horseshoe-shaped icon with an ! mark; amber | Low tire pressure | Pull over and check your tire pressure. Fill tires as needed. You should not continue to drive on one or more tires with low pressure. |
