On my way to work this morning, a dashboard warning light came on. What do Pontiac G6 dash warning lights mean?
Description of light & color | What light may mean | When to go to mechanic |
---|---|---|
oil can icon (sometimes with a wrench); amber | This indicates your G6 needs an oil change | Change your oil as soon as possible. |
Horseshoe-shaped icon with an ! mark; amber | Low tire pressure | Check your tire pressure and fill with air as needed. If the light comes back on, take your car in to a mechanic to troubleshoot the problem. |
Engine icon; amber | Problems vary from the simple to the more complex | An easy fix is to tighten your gas cap. If that doesn’t work, take your G6 to a mechanic. |
Battery icon; red | Problem with battery and/or electrical system | Take to a mechanic ASAP–your G6 will stop running if it is not getting power from the battery. |
Oil can icon with or without wavy lines underneath; red | Very low oil pressure | STOP driving as soon as you safely can. Check the oil level. If you add oil and the red light remains on, bring your G6 in to a mechanic ASAP—you can wreck your engine. |
BRAKE letters or exclamation point (!) inside circles; red | Do not ignore | Safely stop the car. Tow to a mechanic if necessary. Driving with a serious brake problem is risky. |
