What do I need to sell my car in Colorado?

I’m moving from Boulder to Denver this year for work. While I have a car, it’s not reliable, so I want to sell it and get a new one. Since I’ve never sold a car in Colorado before, I want to make sure I get the process correct. What do I need to sell my car in the Centennial State?

Moving from Boulder to
Denver
isn’t far in terms of distance, but it’s a whole different world in the Mile High City. If you want to buy a new vehicle, here’s what you need to sell your car in
Colorado
:
  • Complete a bill of sale. The state doesn’t have an official form, so a template online should suffice.
  • Transfer the title to the buyer by filling out the form on the back of your title. Make sure to collect payment before signing the title, as doing so afterward can cause some issues if the buyer refuses to pay.
  • Report the sale of the vehicle to your local DMV or on the Colorado DMV website.
Since you’re selling your old car, you should start shopping for car insurance now.
