What do I do if my Subaru trunk won't open?

I have a Subaru. For whatever reason, the trunk won’t open whenever I use the key fob. The key fob works with other components of the vehicle, so I’m fairly certain that it’s not the issue. What should I do if I can’t get my Subaru trunk to open?

Since you said that the key fob still works to open your car and use other components, changing the battery on the fob probably won’t fix the issue. However, you can try some of these options to open your Subaru trunk:
  • See if your battery is dead. If you stick the key in the ignition or the key fob won’t start the engine, you may have a dead battery. To resolve this issue, either
    refill the car battery
    or buy a new one.
  • Figure out if the trunk lock or latch is broken. If the engine starts and the key fob works, but you hear a clicking noise when trying to open the trunk, it’s likely that your trunk latch is broken. This isn’t common, but it could happen if someone forced the trunk closed. Fixing this issue is complex, so taking your car to the dealer is probably your best option.
  • Replace the car key fob battery. You said that the key fob was still working, but it never hurts to replace the battery if no other avenues can fix the issue.
