What are some reasons why not to buy a Tesla?

Can you give me some reasons why my husband shouldn’t buy a Tesla? I’ve been trying to talk him out of it because it doesn’t seem like a practical financial choice for us, but I want to have a serious discussion with him about it sometime soon. What are some talking points that I could bring up?

There are a lot of reasons that buying a
Tesla
might not be the right choice for your husband. Some talking points to bring up include:
  • They’re expensive. Teslas are expensive to buy new, but they’re even more expensive to buy used.
  • There’s a waiting list. Sometimes, you’ll have to wait almost a year before you can even purchase a new Tesla.
  • It’s often hard to find charging stations. Since Teslas require a specific charger, this can be a big issue on long trips.
  • Maintenance can be complicated. You’ll usually have to bring your car to a dealership for repairs, which can be very expensive.
  • They’re not great on slippery roads. If you live in an area that gets a lot of ice, snow, or rain, this can be a huge con.
  • They’re bad for the environment. While driving a Tesla doesn’t produce nearly as many emissions as driving a gas-powered vehicle, creating a battery for one Tesla produces emissions equal to a full eight years of driving a gas-powered car.
