What age can you drive an electric car?

EVs are supposed to be safer, and I’m eager to get my teens on the road a bit earlier. At what age can you drive an electric car?

Electric cars are loaded with safety features, but are still comparable to any other vehicle in terms of overall safety. In the U.S., you’re required to be 16 years of age with a driver’s license to drive an
electric car
. In some states, you can get a learner’s permit under 16.
It should be no surprise that the primary method of transportation in America is the car. Before our young ones even reach the age of 16, most Americans begin to get them ready for their first driver’s test. The youth today will most likely enter into a world somewhat different from ours. Instead of internal combustion engines, they’ll be driving electric cars filled with tech and great features.
Though the function and aesthetic of our vehicles are changing, the law remains the same. Electric or not, we’re all required to be the legal age of 16 years old to operate any vehicle on public roads, unless you live in a state where you can get a learner’s permit at a younger age.
That doesn’t mean you can’t prepare teens for an electric future. The
