Toyota Prius 2013 vs 2014—which model is better?

I’m planning on purchasing a used Prius pretty soon and I’m torn between two model years. When looking at the 2013 vs 2014 Toyota Prius, what should I consider?

How exciting that you’re going to be driving your very own
Toyota Prius
home soon! There’s actually not much difference between the Toyota Prius 2013 vs 2014.
Here are some of their shared specs to give you an idea:
  • Fuel economy: 51/48 mpg city/highway
  • Engine: 1.8L gas/electric I-4
  • Body style: hatchback
  • Passengers: 5
  • Fuel tank capacity: 11.9 gallons
The 2014 Toyota Prius does have slightly more horsepower at 134-hp to the 2013 model’s 98-hp. But almost everything else from the torque (105 @ 4,000 rpm), exterior and interior dimensions, and even the original MSRP of $24,200 are pretty much identical.
That said, the market value today for the 2014 Prius runs slightly higher depending on your location and the vehicle’s condition. Therefore, if it really comes down to it—you may just be better off going for the cheaper 2013 model.
Regardless of which Toyota Prius model you choose, you’ll want to protect your investment with quality car insurance.
