Should I get my Acura MDX lowered?

I've just started getting into the idea of aftermarket modifications for my car. A friend of mine lowered her vehicle, like on spring, which seemed really cool. I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my Acura MDX. Is that something I'll be able to do with my car?

Great question—it’s always a good idea to look into any projects you’re planning ahead of time. No—it does not sound like a good idea to try lowering an
Acura MDX
—doing so can cause quite a few problems.
As you guessed, modifications like lowering kits can affect different models in different ways. So what was a harmless and fashionable mod in your friend’s car could be a mildly disastrous one in your
Acura
.
For one, there aren’t any aftermarket lowering springs specifically for the MDX—meaning you’d have to try improvising a functional lowering kit for your Acura using spring intended for other cars.
Moreover, the MDX doesn’t have the proper suspension or shocks to support a lowering—they would both begin wearing out pretty rapidly, and soon you’ll have to pay about $1,000 a piece to have them replaced.
Basically, there is a high risk of complications, and a high risk of long-term damage to your suspension and shocks—not to mention, lowering your MDX will almost certainly increase your
car insurance
rates.
That last one, at least, we can do something about. You can always use
