Should I buy a Tesla Model Y car cover?
My parents just retired, and they’re paying me to housesit for them for three months while they go on a big whirlwind trip through Europe. They drive a Tesla Model Y, but it will sit in their garage while they’re gone. Should I get them a car cover for while they’re away?

As a rule, car covers are always a good idea when cars are stored indoors for longer periods. They’re good to use when parked outdoors, protecting the car from weather and UV damage. But long-term, using a car cover outdoors will do more harm than good.
Even waterproof and weatherproof tailor-fitted car covers can get moisture trapped underneath them, especially when raining or snowing. That moisture can do damage on its own. And in freezing outdoor conditions, the car cover can stiffen and cause scratches when the wind picks up and moves the cover around.
Given that your parents’ Tesla Model Y will be stored in a garage, we’d recommend getting the car cover. You can find them at major retailers and online for anywhere from $50 to $700, though you’ll find Tesla Model Y car covers with great quality in the $100 to $200 range.
